Dis+Abled SPORT WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

Wheelchair Rugby, originally known as “Murderball,” is a dynamic Paralympic sport developed by athletes with tetraplegia. Played on a basketball-sized court by mixed-gender teams, it involves carrying a ball across the opponent’s goal line using specially designed offensive or defensive wheelchairs. Players pass, dribble, and crash into one another in a fast-paced game where strategy and contact are key, though dangerous collisions are penalized. The sport is highly inclusive – able-bodied players can also participate by using the same wheelchairs, making it a true model of integrated competition. Its structure, clear rules, and thrilling action make it both accessible and captivating for players and spectators alike.
