ALKA

Alka is a historic Croatian game of chivalry, held annually in Sinj to commemorate the 1715 victory over Turkish invaders. Players aim to hit a suspended target called the Alka with a long spear, scoring points depending on which section of the target is struck. The game is traditionally played on a flat track and requires accuracy, timing, and skill. Adaptations allow people in wheelchairs to compete with lowered targets and shorter spears, while visually impaired participants can use bright colors or bells to locate the target. Competitors take three throws each, and the player with the highest total points wins. Special scoring rules exist for extraordinary throws, making the game exciting and challenging. Alka not only preserves cultural heritage but also fosters social inclusion, teamwork, and understanding between people of varying abilities.
