LIPPA

Lippa is a traditional game from Lucania that tests skill and strength by having players propel a small wooden piece, called the “Mazzetto,” using a longer stick known as the “Lancio.” The game is played from a marked starting circle in an open area, and the objective is to launch the Mazzetto as far as possible. The player who achieves the greatest distance is the winner. Lippa can be adapted for inclusivity by modifying equipment and rules: the Mazzetto can be made larger, lighter, textured, or brightly colored; the stick can be shorter, lighter, or fitted with adaptive grips; and ramps or levers can assist players who cannot swing. The playing area can be made flat, accessible, and equipped with tactile or visual markers. Rules can be adjusted to allow seated play, assisted swings, simplified hits, team play, and point systems that reward effort and participation rather than distance alone. These adaptations make Lippa enjoyable and accessible for players with diverse abilities while promoting social inclusion and teamwork.
